Janis Jirotka grew up in Canada and Germany, with one parent from Germany and one (refugee) parent from the former Soviet Union. She lives in Hamburg, works in the theater/performance scene and also gives workshops at schools. Janis is interested in feminist, political art that fights discrimination such as sexism, racism and anti-Semitism and promotes empowering encounters.

She usually works in collective projects and plans to collaborate with various artists over the course of the residency. Performance, poetry, dance or audio walks in public spaces are often about memory and collecting stories and finding different ways to tell them.

Janis Residency runs from January to (end of) April 2024.
