Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel district

In late summer 2026, the flying artists’ room will land on François-Mitterrand-Platz in Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel district.

The Bahnhofsviertel district, framed by the main train station, city center, Westend, and Gutleutviertel, has around 4,000 residents and combines a wide variety of urban, social, and cultural realities in a very small area. People from over 100 nations live or work here. Kaiserstraße as the historical backbone, the international offerings of Münchener Straße, the small-scale Taunusstraße, and quieter residential areas create a network of parallel living environments that shape the special character of the district.

Despite its liveliness, the Bahnhofsviertel lacks easily accessible spaces for encounters, culture, and joint creative activities. There are few leisure and educational opportunities for children and young people; public spaces are often heavily used or difficult to access. Many residents would like to see places where exchange, participation, and new perspectives are possible.
This is exactly where the flying artists’ room comes in: in the middle of François-Mitterrand-Platz, a place is being created for five years that promotes cultural participation and creative processes in the social space. The offer will be aimed particularly at children and young people in the station district, but will also be open to all residents. Artists will develop the program together with the local people and stakeholders.

In mid-January 2026, the first artist scholarship for the FlieKü in the station district will be announced. Further information on the call for applications and the program will follow in the coming months.
